The holidays are associated with gifting presents to loved ones and giving back to those in need. Well, the town of Riverdale Park in Maryland gives back to its community members all year round. Through the Farmers Market Dollar Program, the town awards households in need with $25 gift cards to be used at the weekly Riverdale Park Farmers Market.
The program originally began in the spring of 2020 as part of the broader “Partners in Economic Recovery Program”, approved by the municipality’s City Council as a measure to address the pandemic’s economic effects on its residents and businesses. Riverdale Park residents can easily apply to be a part of this program by email, phone, or regular mail. Since its inception, approximately 225 households have been receiving four $25 gift cards every month to be redeemed at the weekly Farmers Market.
